Microsoft ActiveSync technology provides data replication and synchronization by comparing the data on a target device with the data on the desktop computer to which the target device is connected. The Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 is only supported on Windows Vista. This new version of the Windows Mobile Device Center contains key improvements and new features to support Windows Mobile 6 devices. CE 6.0 provides support for ActiveSync version 4.2 and later. Using time stamps and user preferences, the synchronization process tracks data changes on both computers, then transfers the appropriate data so that each machine has the most-recent versions. Note: Microsoft ActiveSync works only with Windows XP SP2 or earlier. ActiveSync provides a great synchronization experience with Windows®-powered PCs and Microsoft Outlook right out of the box.
Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 is the latest sync software release for Windows Mobile-powered devices. ActiveSync does not support synchronization between Windows Embedded CE-based devices themselves. Microsoft ActiveSync provides support for synchronizing data between a Windows-based desktop computer and Windows Embedded CE–based devices.
